Indefinable by words alone. It is not only something you hear but what you feel. It is something your soul can reach out and touch. It originates from all over the world since time began. Complex or simple, fast or slow, loud or soft. It is what you feel, or it could be your method of escape or it could just keep you alive. All music is miraculous.

A work of art, containing words that eventually may tell us something, moving in a catchy rhythm. Long story short, its "fucking your ears with noises, catchy noises". There are many times of music, starting from quite possibly the very beginning of humanity, or at the least when homo-sapiens stopped picking their noses and stood up, hooting wildly and beating each other in the head with dinosaur bones. This is how music began, don't object me, I know I'm right. Eventually this "music" evolved into a leisure hobby that has lived to this modern day. There are many types of music, but apparantly corruption in the [RIAA], a money-oinking recording industry began a organized legal-war against the sharing of .mp3s, the main format for music we distribute through websites and gnutella networks. The RIAA's victory against [napster] proved to be a failure, other file sharing networks sprouted out like mushrooms and cleverly evaded the law by claiming "We arn't distributing the 'illegal files', its the users themselves that choose what they want to distribute, we arn't controlling anything". Nonetheless, recently [RIAA] and even some governments threatened to sue those who are found to be "pirating" music. It ain't pirating damnit, all we just do is buy CDs from the mall, use our cd-burner software to extract and convert the music, and hand it out to moneyless bums on the internet. If the [RIAA] was so damn smart, then maybe they would at least make it harder for us to do so.

Music is basically sounds that you enjoy, unlike the farting your lard-stuffed dad makes.

Music is just sequences of sounds and sometimes vocals put together. Now, it has become categories in which today's people has put themselves in express to the world what they represent or what they want to represent. Categories like gangstas, punk rockers, ravers, ginos, metal rockers, etc. What I don't understand is why these categories constantly attack each other and their taste, most of the people who actually truly align themselves into a single demographic (most noticable are the "gangstas", but rockers are catching up...) Actually got into that music because it was the fad at the time. This saying that people aren't truly expressing themselves, but are just emulating what's on TV or what their older friends do. Music is music. All music is related to each other so make fun of one genre and you will make fun of every genre.

There is no sciecentific formula for music, it cannot be made on a production line. Music is only music when made by an instrument. Music is from the heart. Music is a sound in which people can listen to in order to feel good about something or change their mood. Plese, do not call rap "crap". Yes, I Indeed agree that 50 Cent and Chingy are some of the most talentless people in the history of mankind but keep an open mind to the underground and old school "B-Boy" aspects of hip-hop. Yes, around 1998 is the time at which hip-hop turned for the worst. Also, hip-hop artists such as shiffai and wa gubla of senegal are extremely talented, do not judge a genre of musice solely on the shit that you are exposed to.

Celly Cel and E-40 are TRU to the game. They made gangsta rap what it is now. Eric B. and Rakim, A Tribe Called Quest, Onyx, Wu Tang are some of the old schools most cherichable, pay attention to these once infamous leaders of a disregarded genre of music. Pleases mind that what you might enjoy, someone else might hate. Everything intended to be music is in fact music.

Purpose behind the creation of music ranges from the exploration of audible mathematical systems (ie: overtone series) to "[shout out]s" to said creator's "[niggaz]".

THE most versatile and universal means of expression. Also largely a matter of opinion and apparently something money-makers try to "own." Music has also been, might I add very wrongly, divided into categories/sub-categories called "genres" that's created an immense level of disunity between music lovers everywhere, causing one group to attack another in favor of their preferred "genre." Music is music. Several people like to criticize certain artists like [Slipknot] and [Avril Lavigne], but what they produce is music. It has a beat, a melody, there is no right or wrong about music. No one is forcing you to listen to them, but there's no reason to say they're '[poser] bands' or criticize '[nu metal]'. Hundreds of people may like a band that you hate because it's music, a universal language that can be enjoyed by everyone. Categorizing music (especially within the metal genre) and saying people are 'posers' if they like a certain band because it's 'nu metal' is ruining the listening of music as well. Listen to music for yourself, not to impress someone. Don't take what kind of music you listen to so seriously; just listen to it and enjoy it, that's what music is about.

Ideally, the manifestation of beauty through an essence woven into the fabric of time, constantly arriving, constantly receding and leaving an ethereal after-glow which echoes across the neural web to finally become conceived, grasped and defined. Music is a pure, raw and mostly primal vibration felt in the deepest pit of your soul and being. Music is selfless, music is true. Music is So What by Miles Davis, Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dylan, music is Machine Gun by Jimi Hendrix, music is Any Colour You Like, music is Freedom, music is a Cold Shot. Music is best when closing your eyes or while watching the world roll by. Music is the deep tone of B.B.'s Lucille, it's the smooth flow of Coltranes sax, it's the harsh, biting sound of Bob Dylan's harmonica and it's the whirl of Manzareks Rhodes. It's what makes us who we are, what we stand for, how we see and how we feel. Unfortunately, it's a rare commodity these days. What with 'bands' like Coldplay, 50 Cent, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, all of them being clones of other crappy ass bands. It's all commercial. I wish people would just shut the fuck up and play some goddamn music.

Music is the language of God. It describes the indescribable, and has the capacity to help people experience oneness with God. Without music, life would be unimaginable. There are three types of music, although much music is a combination of two or more: 1.The first type of music is music of the body- meant for dancing and making love, it is, above all, sensual. It should be rhythmic and melodic. Latin music is a good example. 2.The second type is music of the soul. It is edifying to the mind, and speaks to the longings of the heart and opens the mind to Truth. Jazz is a good example of this, as is much Classical music. Some rock and pop music also sould be classified here, though very little of the kind that you hear on commercial radio or see on MTV. 3.The third type is music of the spirit. It appeals to the highest depths of the spirit, bringing mankind to higher resonance, and helping a person tune into the invisible universe. The music of Alice Coltrane would be a good example. Very few people actually get to hear such music nowadays. 4. Pseudo-music Music is a part of every culture, but Corporate America has been trying to kill music, substituting machine generated "noise" and trying to pass it off as "music". There are those who are doing their best to keep young people from ever experiencing real music, because people who have no spirituality can be more easily manipulated. The disease of soulless, hateful, music- free, melody-free "pseudo-music" is being spread over the face of the earth, and will destroy our souls unless we stop it, by creating a new, joyful, melodic music of international liberation.

That elevator"muzak" isn't music- it's pure crap\! "Rap" that doesn't have any melody or harmony may be poetry, but it isn't music.

A major driving force in today's American culture. Often used my groups of people taking names for themselves from a chosen genre then using it to become as exclusivist as the groups they claim to be shunned by. Used all too often to ostrasize and generalize to fit others into neat little packages and stray away from having to deal with anyone. Music is the most important thing to most people, but sometimes for the entirely wrong reasons. Music is beautiful and one of the best forms of self expression, do not use it to boost yourself.

Pretentious Teenager: Look at that freaky little Emo kid, what a poser. "Emo" Kid: Fuck you, you fucking fuck. Pretentious Teenager: You're too preppy to be a punk. "Preppy/Punk" Kid: I don't give a flying fuck what you say, I like the music so fuck you in the ass with a lit cigar.

I love music. All Music. It is wonderful\! For God's sake, please listen to some music. Any kind of music\! It won't hurt you. I know what I am talking about. I am a composer of some very minor pieces, and several albums, also known as compact discs, within the field of electronic music. I earned a degree from the University of Montevallo in 1990. That's all I am ever allowed by law as of now in the United Stated to do\! And I was born here in 1966 just outside of a little tiny city called Chicago. If you are seriously deranged or something, go away now and don't read any further. Because what I am about to type now is the truth. Here Goes: God gave mankind and womankind the power to compose music. See, that was not so hard, now was it?

Definition: Organized sound

-Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up" -Any Song you've ever heard -A two year old banging pot lids -Birds chirping -Any Britney Spears Song (yes, even Britney...) -The muslim call to prayer on Fridays, or your local church's bells at noon ...it's all valid to be identified as music - everything after that is a matter of taste.

Sound composed to make you feel something. i.e., enraged, depressed, motivated, silly. (some stuff just makes u wanna bang your head till u pass out ;) Anything can be considered music, but I say it depends on skill and technicality. genres like pop don't cut it. Jazz damn good. Various genres of metal i.e., black\<my fav\>, thrash, power, death, speed, heavy, doom, viking, grindcore have great variety and style to them. Rap is fine, but it has to be very profound or its just annoying. hip-hop is good to listen to set the mood during sex \musichehe\music. *FYI* Nu-metal is not music. It is just noise with half-assed melody made to satisfy the wannabe hardcore mainstream. ROCK ON

I'm fucking bored like none other. I think I'm going to blast some fucking Children Of Bodom. \musicAhhh. Now THIS IS MUSIC\!\!\!

Food for your mind; Heroin for your ears; Orgasm for your soul. Everyone in the world, regardless of race, religion, political views, age, sex, or nationality, can listen to and enjoy music. We may lead extrordinarily different lives, but one thing we all have in common is the ability to appreciate music. Whether it be Jazz, Punk, Metal, Funk, Romantic, Baroque, Grunge, Classic Rock, Hip-Hop, R&B, Folk, Country, Techno, Soul, Disco, Blues, Rap, Pop, House, Drum 'n' bass, Electronica, Progressive Rock, Post-rock, Reggae, Ska, Math-rock, Ambient, Classical, Rock 'n' roll, Modern Classical, Bubblegum, Screamo, Deathcore, Swing, Bebop, Fusion, Mash-up, Emo, Stoner Metal, J-pop, or even Lady Gaga, it's all music. While most other things in the world is neccesary for us to be able to function properly as a society (Cars, computers, guns, clothes, houses), music is the very substance that we live for.

Music is what makes us human.

Any rhythmic expression....The main requirement is an instrumental. Without instruments playing a beat or whatnot, the singer or rapper is not performing music. With that said, the dude saying that music requires singing and not rapping(what he calls "talkin") is very wrong. Groups such as orchestras perform and release albums. They dont always include a chorus with them. Now I know for a fact you wont deny that orchestras play music. Your embedded ethnocentrism wont allow you to. Most orchestras consist of caucasian musicians; who do not sing. It is still music; and very good music at that. Therefore, hip-hop artists who grant it, for the most part, do not sing, still are considered musical performers due to the fact that their music displays rhythmic expressions. Lastly, hip-hop musicians are far more talented than you think when it comes to the complexity of their music and their lyrics specifically. Not always the case for rock an roll. However, I am not disrespecting the genre of rock and roll either. It is simply my stating that most people overlook the talent of hip-hop artists.

Them gothic chicks need to get themselves educations before they obtain the right to judge music that they have little to no knowledge about. Example of Rap Lyrics- "I specialize in hypnotizing, im never compromising/ my skills are surprising, despite hate arising its love im reviving/ under pressure im thriving best come outta your hiding/ like Randy Johnson im sliding into the front seat confiding/ in the girl I hold dearest in my heart two souls colliding/ so before you judge me racist laws your abiding/ pick up your knowledge and like Game stop snitching, stop lying" -Me(Im 15, and not nearly talented enough to become a professional MC, plus it took my less than 2 minutes to come up with that) Ok some Rock and Roll Lyrics-"IM NOT OKAYYYYYYYYYYYY"-My Chemical Romance....Now i could be wrong, but it prolly took them a bit longer to come up with that....

Something that should not be talked about, with your friends, family or strangers. Should be in the same "subjects never to talk about" list such as "Politics, Religion". No matter what you listen to, no matter what band makes the "music" somebody is gonna say how much they suck, and how talentless they are, Irregardless of what "genre". Thats why I listen to music by myself where nobody else can hear, so I don't have to defend it, or explain why I like it. LIke what you like already mother fuckers. God, this is the biggest "fanboy" "hater" site ever\!

Do not talk about Religion, Politics, and Music, with anybody. This will constitute a pointless argument, and wasted time and animosity. I like New metal and metal. If you guys like rap, pop, or Green day, don't say what I listen to sucks, because YOU don't like it. I respect the music you listen to, so don't insult me. AND don't force it up my ass, like change the radio station in my car because you don't like it, And say how Led Zeppelin Is "god". WHICH IN MY OPINION Classic Rock Sucks Dick\! Music creates a bond, a common good between two people, creating a profound friendship. You share and collaborate your ideas and feeback to help cope through problems. When music actually guides you and helps you at times when most needed, music touches you. When music touches you it creates a memory, and that's why music is so memorable, as are friends.

Music is an expression... its an expression of self, your emotions, your life, the good, the bad, and everything in between. It's an escape from the world around us, whether you listen to music to drown out annoying family, or you play and write music to help you get through the tougher times in life. But, to any true musician, music is a way of life. It seems alot of musicians these days play music for the money and fame, but a real musican doesnt play for the money, cars, women... no, they play for the people out there who listen, they play for the feeling they get the moment they step out into the light, seeing the fans who wait, wanting to hear you play, they play for the sheer fact that they love doing it, and because music has become a part of them. To them, a life without music would be like waking up without your senses, like a huge emptiness inside them, unable to communicate how they truly feel.

Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, just some people who play amazing music etc.

In my definition the art of expressive manipulation of sound, virtually every human culture has a type or types of music making it the one thing we all have in common. A crude form of communication based upon patterned oscillating atmospheric distortions generated via vocal and or instrumental means with the intent to convey some emotion or express some (typically abstract) concept. Music exist in several different genres, which can be further subdivided into smaller classifications; but those are mostly created by marketing reps to confuse the average listener and incite rivalry amongst unimportant subcultures. The bottom line is trends and the all mighty $. Whatever values coveted by the factions who vehemently enjoy one particular type of music over another are not truly relevant.

For some reason music seems to speak to the soul of most people. It reaches out to the primal man-ape within us all. The weak minded can be controlled or inspired by it. An impressionable music aficionado can be persuaded or dissuaded to kill his or her best friend just by listening to music. Music can be soothing riveting or something all together different.

INCREDIBLY overrated. People are so caught up in the music scene that they forget that there's more to life. A simple book can get you out of reality. People obsess about originality and being unique and individual... but they always limit it to the music scene. Society cannot think outside of music. Music is conformity itself, believe it or not. We have people thinking that they are rebelling by LISTENING to metal. People thinking that if they LISTEN to underground bands, they are different. They limit originality to what they LISTEN to.

15 year old boy: I'm tired of being a tool of society, I think I'll go rebel by LISTENING to black metal. Person1: Oh, she LISTENS to Good Charlotte, she must be a teenie. Person2: He's gangster, he LISTENS to rap. Person3: He's so punk with his mohawk and his Sex Pistols tee. Person4: Ew, you LISTEN to Beyonce? Don't talk to me. Notice how I emphasize the word LISTEN. Only because people judge others depending on what they listen to. Music went from something beautiful to something society uses as a tool to stereotype people/bring people down/judge people. WHO SHOULD GIVE A FUCK WHAT OTHERS LISTEN TO? Whatever makes your ears happy, godamnit. Music is the root of stereotyping. Music is tarnished by society. Music is now overrated.

Something that teenagers like to say what they listen to is called. Well I'd just like to add a little bit of QUOTATION MARKS. "music" is what these people listen to, as in it is not actual music.

I was up late posting on my livejournal about how much my live sucks when My Chemical Romance came on the radio. That's what I call music\! Yea, more like "music".

Music, as you know it, sucks. Music is not a recording. Music is not a band or any musicians (most modern musicians, mainly guitarists, bassists, and drummers, suck anyway). Real music does not have to be recorded. Real music is written down in standard notation, but since most modern music is too horrible to be written down, and since most musicians can't read music at all, it doesn't even matter. Music continues to suck.

Ask a so-called "musician" these days to recite the circle of fifths, order of flats, or even the key of Cmaj. He probably won't be able to do it. Once people stop becoming classical musicians, music is screwed forever.

Music is summit u listen 2 wen u wanna relax, like punk and rock and wot not.

POP and SHITTY DANCE does not count as music

147. (Music) (49↑, 136↓)
Something that requires singing. Rap is not music because its just losers saying words with somebody else that gets no credit playing some music in the background. Screamo is music because it has a rhythm and is not screamed through the whole song, there is some singing, unlike rap.

Jessica) Put on some music\! Katrina) (puts 50 cent CD into cd player) Jessica) That's npt music\! Its just people talking with music in the background\! Katrina) Ya, you're right. Jessica) hmmmm... Put this Aiden CD in, and then we can listen to the Used or My Chemical Romance Katrina) Thanks for not letting me put that CD in\! NOw I won't become pregnant at 16 from being influenced be what they say in these "songs" Jessica) Your welcome. I had to save myself. They're not songs, there just people talking. Katrina) You're the best friends ever\! You give advise on how to not become a whore\! Not listen to rap\! I luv you\!
